More details on Functional Ceramics:

Kris lives in Bloomington, IN and has been working with clay since she was a teenager. She studied it in college and is a full-time potter. She said that two things really inspire her in regards to creating mugs. One is the joy in the customer’s face when they tell her how much they enjoy using her mug or they describe what they like about it. The other is striving to make the shape function well and feel good in the hand.

The first time I met Kris was in 2011 when we were neighbors at the Cherokee Triangle Art Fair. I really enjoyed getting to know her, and I was drawn to her sleek yet generous forms and her glazing in its myriad of colors. It was hard to pick out just one! I definitely agree that how a mug feels when you hold it matters, and Kris has been perfecting that feeling for a long time. In her words, “My goal is to enhance the celebration of daily life and enrich its simple joys.” Her work is beautiful as well as perfect for everyday use. Definitely check out her work!

In high school, I began the ritual of a hot beverage in a special mug before journaling. There is something about taking the time to make tea and holding that warm mug that helps me take a breath and slow down before I start emptying my thoughts on the page. Those signals matter: a cup of tea, a lit candle. It’s a concrete reminder to slow down even for a few mins to catch up with and be with myself. May these inspire you to do the same.

More details on Forget Me Not Farm:

Jennifer Davis of Forget Me Not Farm is a yoga instructor, homeschool co-op organizer and teacher, a homeschool mom and more. She and her husband, Sean, started Forget Me Not Farm in Paris, KY, which is an umbrella for their many ventures in learning, creating, and sharing. Each of the gift boxes contain at least one item from her. I've known Jennifer for several years now, and she is constantly learning and teaching. She brings so much enthusiasm and care to each endeavor that she takes on. You will feel that in all the details of these products.

She is making our candles and teas. She hand-pours the candles with organic soy wax, uses wooden wicks and only essential oils for scenting. The teas are all made in small batches with organic and ethically sourced ingredients with health and wellness in mind. Each gift box that has tea will also come with a few tea bags to put the tea in.

When I'm setting the scene to journal, I've found that something as simple as a hot beverage and candle lift my mood and ground me. It turns the ordinary into something sacred and special. It is another signal to myself that I'm setting aside this time to reflect. It helps me be more intentional in quieting down and turning inward. Jennifer's tea blends and candles are perfect for doing just that.
