This handmade, leather journal has a compass stitched to the cover.  The cover is from scrap leather and the inside pages are 100% recycled, archival, and blank.  This was commissioned as a thank you gift.  It is intended to be used as a travel journal and as a haven for the recipient's thoughts and reflections.

Here is a small, refillable notebook version of the larger "Deeply Rooted" journal.  It was custom made for a customer to give as a birthday gift to her sister.  When she requested all the elements of the large journal on this small size, I wasn't sure how it would work.  We were both excited that this small size could still contain many of the details, including the wooden button closure. 

Whether you are taking dance lessons, practicing yoga, participating in a fitness routine, or just wanting to get more intentional about your life, this journal is for you. It is a gently guided outline to give you space to set weekly goals, intentions, dreams as well as space for each day of the week to reflect on your frustrations, accomplishments, and happenings. It has 18 weeks inside of it and each one begins with a new quote.  Each of these journals will be accompanied by a handout to explain the layout of the pages as well as give some ideas for the reflections parts.  As far as the cover design, I have several of these already created with my sassy, dancer girl and goddess figure.  I can add this insert to a custom journal of your choosing.  If you are interested, contact me here.   There are several currently available for purchase here.  You can see some more pictures of the fabulous ladies here.

Custom handmade, leather journal as a gift for a life coach:

Ah, this cute koala was designed by a guy for his gal.  He had me translate the koala and some eucalyptus to fabric and create this one-of-a-kind handmade, leather journal.  I heard back from him that it was a great success and that his lady friend really liked it.

Here is a recent custom design I created as an iPad cover.  This particular design included a strap so that the customer could easily carry it by itself.  Inside is 100% eco-friendly padding to help protect the device.  The leather used for this particular one is from a domestic tannery and the wood button is from another artist.  I am taking orders for more custom designed ipad and e-reader covers.  You can view more designs here.  They start out at $90 and turnaround time is currently 3-4 weeks.  Please contact me with any questions.

I am very excited with how this custom order turned out! I was commissioned by someone who found a photo on Pinterest and asked if I could make something similar. As we continued working with the design, it definitely became its own. The owner will be using this primarily as his gaming journal. The pocket is for his dice, and he'll have room for multiple pens/pencils.  This design would work well as a sleeve in a variety of sizes for e-readers, notebooks, ipads, etc.

This handmade, leather journal was carefully planned and co-created for a 7th wedding anniversary.  I was contacted by the wife who wanted a custom journal made for her husband.  The traditional gifts for the 7th wedding anniversary are wool or copper.  I was asked to incorporate both.  Her husband likes earthy colors (he was initially drawn to my work because of the coffee bag books), and she wanted the quote on the first page.  The word "journey" is hand-stitch on environmentally-friendly, 100% wool in a copper colored thread.  The center closure is copper.  I also really like that it is a circle since that echoes both wedding rings and the idea of a journey.  Their anniversary was earlier this week, and I received the kindest email from her husband once he received it.

I'm really please with how this one turned out and enjoyed making it in honor of this couple's anniversary.  Happy 7th Anniversary to them!

This is a horse photo album that I created for my younger cousin.  She is using it as a scrapbook to put pictures in of her and her horses.   The pages are acid-free, which means that her photos won't yellow over time.  Each page was individually crafted so that she can add pictures without the book getting bulky.  It will naturally expand for her and become a keepsake.  

This book was created for a lady who is heading to Rwanda this summer to meet her adopted son. Her circumstance is quite unique and she is planning on making annual trips there. This journal is meant to accompany her and allow her to record her story. It is created from repurposed leather and archival, recycled paper. The lettering is handstitched, and the book is handbound.

Welcome to my first official e-reader sleeve!  

As of right now, I am only making these as a custom order so you can choose the color and type of design that you would like.  This one was a custom order with a flower design for a kindle.  The outside is leather and has a pocket that can be used for a charger, paper and pen, or something else all together.  The kindle fits nicely inside where it is padded with environmentally-friendly felt.  This felt is 100% tan wool with no extra processing.  There are no dye’s, and the wool is naturally flame retardant.  The kindle will stay in securely with a flap and leather tie that goes around a handmade wooden button.  Each will be unique.  Please contact me if you are interested in one.  These can be modified for any e-reader—nook, kindle, or even an ipad.

 This customized book was created for a lady who wants it for plant data that she is collecting.   It has lined paper and alphabetical tabs.  The tabs will make it so that she can easily look up specific species, recipies, and the like.   The outside was a repurposed encyclopedia cover, and the inside paper is both recycled and acid-free.  

I just completed this custom Celtic book necklace. It is over-sized, and both the leather and the textblock are recycled. The binding is a combination of a couple of traditional binding methods along with my own interpretation. The directive was an extra-large book necklace with green leather and a triskelion. The request also included wanting something that was "distinctly Oesch". I really enjoyed creating this little treasure, which brings to mind Irish mythology and folklore.

Book Necklaces:  Key to My Heart

Great for teeny, tiny photos or small sweet messages...

Today, I received a phone call from a customer who had bought a leather book necklace a couple months ago.  She proceeded to tell me all about her budding romance, how she has waited a long time for a good fit, and how they've now found each other.  This is where the book necklace comes in.  She had some of their photos together printed smaller and also cut apart some of the photo indexes that had tiny pictures of them together.  Then, she put them all in one of these booklets, gave it to her boyfriend for Christmas, and told him that the key on it stood for the key to her heart.  He loved it!  He was so touched by it that he cried.  He hangs it on his rearview mirror so that he can look at it frequently.  What’s especially fun is that he made a book full of pictures for her as well.  She called today wanting several more book necklaces because she wants to make him one for Valentine's Day and plans on giving him a collection of these as time goes on.  So, these fun mini books can be used for more than just necklaces!  The sized she used it just a touch larger than the ones I currently make so just let me know if you want one this size.

 

 

I'm so intrigued by old text blocks and the appearance they create by simply being. It's almost like they transport you to a quieter time by their very existence. Text blocks are being used for all sorts of decorative purposes these days.  Even furniture stores like Arhaus are using them in interesting ways:

 When a customer asked if I'd make bookends, this was the first thing that popped into my mind:

I just completed this custom design. Someone contacted me wanting to have the Anarchist's Tool Chest printed and bound. I'll admit to being a bit hesitant as I did not know what content a book like this would have. Thankfully, I proceeded with the e-conversation and found out that it has to do with using woodworking tools to create lasting furniture. This request was also just for the index which came out after the actual book did. I worked with a local printing company to print the inside, created the cover, and bound it.  It turned out quite fabulously, and the cover has a rustic feel that works so appropriately with the content.

 

This is the shirt that the bride's Maid of Honor surprised her with for her
bachelorette party.  Those are linen stitched letters on a fancy tank top.

The wedding banner turned out fabulously, and I just love how they placed
it on the front of their reception table.
